Who we are

Here, the ground is rebuilt by hand

The island we live on is made of totora, the same reed that grows all around it. We cut it, dry it and lay it in fresh layers over the block of roots that keeps it afloat. Our grandparents did it this way, and so do we.

The lodge began when we decided to open our home to people who want to take their time with the lake rather than pass through: sleep here, eat what we eat, and go out on a reed boat while the water is still flat.

Rooms

Two ways to sleep on the water

The jetty and the lake mid-morning

A day on the island

The lake sets the schedule

  1. Sunrise

The water is still and the sky changes colour every few minutes. Worth getting up for, even in the cold.

  2. Morning

Breakfast, then out on a reed boat between the neighbouring islands. On the way we tell you how they are built and what life on them is like.

  3. Afternoon

Read on the terrace, paddle with us, visit the community’s craftspeople, or do nothing at all.

  4. Sunset

The light turns gold over the lake. Time for photos, and for your warmest jacket.

  5. Night

No noise, no city lights. At this altitude the sky fills with stars.
